The DC (Mr Harold Horry) reported that the District now had just over 1,000 members and said that there were 488 cubs - which meant that between 43% and 48% of the boys in that age group available in the area were in the Movement. "That is almost one out of every two two" he said. "No other youth organistion has figures like that. There are 362 scouts - 24% of all the boys available, aged between 11 and 15. These figures are better than any so far available in the county. We are the Champions in Cheshire". But he went on to issue a warning and a challenge. "We must press onto new horizons. he said. "We need more leaders. We need positive fundraising, administrative support for weaker groups, we need to a District Hq, we need a Finance Committee to give advice on the proper use of monetary resources, insurance and so on. There is much to be done."
Harold's leadership as District Commissioner was recognised on Sunday 25th April 1976 by the presentation of an embroidered tablecloth with the signatures of over 1000 cubs, scouts and officers. Extracted from District Yearbook 1976 - 77 |
