Alderley District Badge

  The Alderley District badge was first issued in 1980. The simple design – a stag’s head in gold on a blue background – taken from the Arms of Stanleys of Alderley was chosen for several reasons:
  • The badge bears the original name of our District, which was revived to avoid confusion after local government re-organisation
  • In 1909, Lord Sheffield was patron of the emerging Scout Movement and encouraged its development. Local boys visited and camped on his estate at Alderley Park – now owned by Astra Zeneca – quite frequently in those early days
  • In 1920 John F. Wilkinson – a former District President – then a newly appointed Deputy Camp Chief (the old title for a leader trainer) set up the first Leader Training Centre outside Gilwell Park, at Alderley Park and held course there for several years.
